changes to hosting

this year, our upstream host, 1984 hosting, announced two pricing changes that brought the cost to nearly double. we've never had an issue with the company or their support team (quite the opposite, they've been very helpful whenever we needed it), but, in the effort of keeping costs managable, we are switching hosts.

what you need to know

starting 1 October 2024, your data and the data you hold custody over will be shared with Hetzner Online GmbH. you can view their privacy policy here.

all sites hosted on fuecoco.doamatto.xyz will be migrated to toxtricity.doamatto.xyz. you must complete one of two actions so that your site is still accessible :

• Update A records for your site to 167.235.131.220 and set a AAAA record for your site to 2a01:4f8:1c1b:9f00::1
• Update CNAME records for your site to toxtricity.doamatto.xyz or eur.doamatto.xyz. The latter will prevent you from needing to take action in the future if servers are changed in the future.

rsync support may be dropped in the future, but you will be able to update your site via rsync for now. you can connect to either hostname above. ssh keys will be copied directly. instead of using the git user, use the web user. for rsync communication, use port 49002.

after changing your DNS records, you may experience some downtime — the new server WILL NOT have any TLS certificates that the old server has. once you update your records, it may take up to a day for your site to be accessible again. you can reach out to try and get this expedited, if need be.
